Art-Drop Fridays is an opportunity for a gender diverse community—cisgendered women, female-identifying folks, transwomen, two-spirit, non-binary folks and youth (ages 16+)—not involved with The ARTSPEAKS Workshop Series, to come together in the process of making art that speaks to their experiences in contemporary society.
The Art-Dropsessions will be facilitated by project artists and will run 1-4pm Friday afternoons from March 24 through June 30 (except April 14, Good Friday).
Art-Drop Fridays is offered free-of-charge.
The ARTSPEAKS Workshop Series is an arts-based skills-development program for women impacted by sexual violence, addictions and a variety of mental health challenges. These women, clients of our three partner agencies: Breton House--a recovery home for women, Phoenix Rising Women's Centre and SAH's Sexual Assault Care Centre, will be encouraged to utilize art-making as a means of creative problem solving in the service of fostering resiliency. Participants will take part in workshops built on the basics of art, design and narrative processes, working in small groups along side professional artists in a functional artists' studio, learning through cultural mentorship and guidance, the potential for their own artistic practice.
A variety of art forms will be explored in four separate workshop series of six sessions each, once weekly for 3 hours.
Workshop Series 1 (April 2017) - Storytelling and Mixed Media Processes Workshop Series 2 (May 2017) - Photography and Sculptural Processes Workshop Series 3 (July/August 2017) - Painting Methodologies Workshop Series 4 (September 2017) - Digital Storytelling & Collage
Session size is limited to 8 participants per workshop; session dates and times to be announced directly to the agencies involved.
A final exhibit showcasing works by both project artists and series participants will be staged in our Ideal Art Space at 724 Queen East in November 2017.
